Good Friday

// March 21st, 2008 // Christian Living, Video

Normally I post something light and funny on Friday. Since it’s Good Friday, I thought I would go in the opposite direction.

I’m going to post two things. One is a song by The Choir called “Beautiful Scandalous Night”. Also, I’m posting a video mashup of “The Passion of the Christ”. All of you know that movie doesn’t gloss over much in terms of the violence of what Jesus experienced on that “beautiful scandalous night”. It was violent. It was bloody. Of course, use your own judgment, but I encourage you to watch it.

It’s important to remember both the effects of our sin as well as the infinite love of Christ for us. If you don’t have 10 minutes today to watch this, make sure you take some time to ponder these things on your own.

    I love that song. In fact, it has been one of my favorites for years. But I’ve always been confused by the “night” reference. Maybe you can clear it up for me. Is it the night following Christ’s 3:00pm death? Is it the night of Gethsemane? Is it the darkness that swept down eclipse-like in the middle of the crucifiction? Is it an analogy? Or does “night” just rhyme well with “white”?
    I would have performed that song years ago with a friend of mine, but I couldn’t quite figure that reference out. Still, it is a great song that causes me to be still and thankful for all the Lord has accomplished for us.

    I had noticed the same thing. I have always assumed they were referring to the eclipsing of the sun. Though, knowing The Choir, it could be an obscure analogy… ;-)
