Torturing an 18 Month Old

// March 19th, 2008 // Family Life

Poor Owen…he had his own personal hell day yesterday. We finally bit the bullet and got Owen his first hair cut. His hair has curls in it so it was so cute learn video pokerwinning at video pokerblackjack casino gametop rated online gambling casino, online casino gambling, online casino sports gamblingplay baccarat online, play baccarat, baccarat learn playinternet roulettecasino en language onlineplay roulette online free, online roulette strategy, roulette onlinefree casino game, free online casino game, free casino video gamedouble bonus video pokerfree no download casino, download casino slots, casino downloadfree online casino slots, casino slots internet, casino slotsfree cash casinobest casino gamble internet online, online casino gamble, casino gamblefree online video pokervideo poker machinedownload casino gameinternet baccaratvideo poker download, video poker, video poker gameplay black jack online freeblackjack 21best video pokerfree online casino game craps, casino game online, casino blackjack game onlinecasino no deposit bonus codetournament backgammonroulette game free online, play roulette online free, free online roulettebackgammon downloadblackjack bettingfree online baccaratplaytech online casinobest online casino sitewin video pokerbest online casino bonusonline gambling casino, casino online real gambling, casino download gambling game onlinefree internet casino, free casino, free no deposit casino bonusno deposit casino bonus, free no deposit sign up bonus casino, best no deposit bonus casinoplay craps online, how to play craps, play craps for funbackgammon gambling, online backgammon gamblingno deposit online casinoadd casino link onlinebingo casino info online rememberblack jack gamblingcasino online gambling guidefree casino card gamevirtual online casinoblack jack casino game, black jack game download, black jack gamevideo poker downloadscasino gambling, free online casino gambling, gambling casino onlineonline game gambling casinoplay video poker being a little long with little curls. I hated to get it cut but it was time..it was becoming unruly and I already have two girls for that. On top of that it was picture day for the kids (more on that later).

So, we went to the first unsuspecting hair cutting place that we saw that didn’t look too expensive. Ben ran in first to make sure they took children (poor people would have said no if they had seen Owen. I had thought ahead and gotten him a sucker hoping if I gave it to him right as Ben sat down with him in the chair, that it would distract him enough…yeah…no such luck!

The first thing that you should know about Owen is that he is an ox. He is really big for his age and extremely strong. He also HATES being confined. He doesn’t like being forced to do anything (we as his parents get the wonderful privilege of harnessing that strong will). Getting Owen to do something that he doesn’t want to do is a bit like trying to tell a hurricane to stop blowing.

So, as soon as he saw that Ben was sitting him down for a time that he would not be allowed to get down, the full fury of Owen was unleashed. He screamed and wriggled like an angry bull. At one point the poor lady went back to the back and stayed there for awhile (probably crying…). She came back and explained that she had cut her finger last week while cutting a child’s hand and was worried about doing it again. She had conferenced with her manager and she was not willing to cut Owen’s hair unless we held his head still.““

I stepped in and decided I would hold him and Ben could hold his head still so that she could get it done. I held him with all my might but he was still trying to get out of my grip. Ben had his head in a vice grip and would not let go. Owen we screaming so hard and kicking the poor lady. We were already too far into the whole thing to turn back so it was do or die at this point. We finally got it done. I tipped the lady VERY well and we left for nap time…little did he know we had more torture ahead for him.

I had made an appointment to get the kids pictures done. I have never had Eliana or Owen’s pictures done professionally and there was a good package deal that made it worth it. So, I planned for days what they would wear, etc. We got there and it was total mayhem. This place does pictures digitally so you get your pictures in 20 minutes. So, everyone (including me) was doing last minute Easter pictures. We had to wait for awhile which was the first glitch in our little plan. 1 year olds don’t wait.

Then they brought us into the studio and had big plans for all these cute pictures. Owen (again not liking to sit still AT ALL) would not cooperate unless he could hold a ball or had a drum so all of our pictures were him banging something, holding a ball, or screaming. On top of that Eliana decided that she was not in the mood for this whole picture thing and would just not smile at all.

In spite of all of that, we got some good pictures. The poor guy had to resort to following them around and snapping pictures. By the end of it, all the people were looking at us like they felt sorry for us and we were about ready to pull our hair out. Thank goodness some good pictures came from it though! Poor Owen, we won’t be torturing him like that again for a long time.

…or was he torturing us?

hahaha…I definitely feel sorry for you guys and not for Owen. I have been there many times. :) Actually, with the picture thing, just once. Once was enough for me. Ethan was 18 months, Andrew was 3 and Joel was 5. Ugh! I wasn’t sure whether to laugh or cry. But the pics are worth it now! Does he look older with his hair cut? Mine always did. It’s so sad with the baby!!

  2. Gloria says:

Oh Heather, I feel so sorry for you. Like MM, I don’t feel a bit sorry for Owen, but as his Nana, I will be ready to lend aid and comfort the next time I see him! In the meantime, I DO look forward to those pictures!! Thanks for going through the trauma to get them. And you wondered why there were not a lot of baby pictures of Owen’s dad???

  3. Yes, def. a story for the scrap books! A few of the pics from our “wonderful” day are in our gallery. He does look too old with his hair cut!!

  4. Sabrina says:

Poor Heather!! According to Gloria’s message Ben is just getting pay backs! hehe
I just read Ben’s blog about the store situation and then I read this… just to let everyone know IM NOT HAVING KIDS ANYTIME SOON!!! lol And it scares me that Aleena will be Owens age very soon…. The pictures look very cute by the way!!!

You wrote, “She came back and explained that she had cut her finger last week while cutting a child’s hand and was worried about doing it again.”

Well there’s your problem… you took him to a lady who cuts hands and not hair. :-)

You are a good writer and tell a good story!
