Pet Peeve #28 – Checkout Lines

Do you ever go grocery shopping with your spouse? I try to avoid it at almost any cost. However, on rare occasions I am hoodwinked and bamboozled into walking around Food Lion with my wife and my 3 housebroken and tamed children. Owen is friendly and waves at everyone. That is, until a display comes within reach. Then he attempts to destroy and/or climb the displays like King Kong in NYC.

You’ve Nothing to Fear

We had a great time at KCC on Easter Sunday. I’ll post two tidbits from my sermon notes and a video that I used.

We do not worship a dead God. This is not a memorial service. We worship a living Jesus, who is alive and well in this very moment.

Good Friday

Normally I post something light and funny on Friday. Since it’s Good Friday, I thought I would go in the opposite direction.

I’m going to post two things. One is a song by The Choir called “Beautiful Scandalous Night”. Also, I’m posting a video mashup of “The Passion of the Christ”. All of you know that movie doesn’t gloss over much in terms of the violence of what Jesus experienced on that “beautiful scandalous night”. It was violent. It was bloody. Of course, use your own judgment, but I encourage you to watch it.

It’s important to remember both the effects of our sin as well as the infinite love of Christ for us. If you don’t have 10 minutes today to watch this, make sure you take some time to ponder these things on your own.

Pet Peeve #27 – Jewish Prayer Shawls and Holy Land Anointing Oil

Blogging is good for a lot of things. One of them is that it’s a great venue for venting about various pet peeves one might have. Things like driving for miles with the turn signal on, driving without ever using the turn signal, big hair, theft-proof packaging used on everything at WalMart, etc. It’s a great alternative to road rage and the resulting inconvenience of jail time.

I preached on Ephesians 2:11-22 this week. This is an interesting passage that brought up a particular pet peeve of mine. I didn’t get to really talk much about it during the sermon because it was a little off topic. So, I thought I would abuse you guys with my rant here.

Proverbial Proverbs from Proverbs

I remember when I was a cubicle dweller, two of my neighbors would begin the day by one of them reading a haiku and then discussing the meaning. Though it sounds pretty dorky, it was actually kind of fun. I would occasionally contribute a verse from Proverbs. I always thought it was cool to be able to discuss scripture with a couple engineers at work.

I thought it might be fun to occasionally do the same here. I’ll throw out a Proverb and a related thought. You guys can discuss and relate it to your life and experiences.

It may sound dorky at first, but it could be fun.
