Funny Beer Commercial

I’m sorry. Really, I am. But this is so funny, I had to post it.

Have a great weekend.

Predestination – Where do You Stand?

I’ve started preaching through the book of Ephesians. If you want the notes from the first week that covered the historical context of the book, I’ve uploaded a PDF of it. We covered Ephesians 1:3-14 this week. You can’t read that piece of scripture without dealing with the question of “who chose who” in salvation and when.

I would contend that this topic and the topic if the deity of Christ are probably the most fought over doctrines in Church history. I don’t like to frame the debate around Arminiand vs Calvinist too much because that leads to comparing the 5 Arminian points to the 5 Calvinist points and soon we have left good theology behind and are comparing points. Plus, I don’t know many people on either side of the line that hold exclusively to all 5 points without at least one or two caveats.

At any rate, I thought it might be interesting (and maybe a tad dangerous) to ask here where some of you stand. I’m not asking for a big theological doctrinal thesis. Just a survey of my readers. If you guys step out of the shadows and participate, it could be fun.

Did God choose us before time, getting no help from us and save us? Or, did God look ahead, see who would choose Him and then “predestine” based on that foreknowledge? In other words, does God choose us, do we choose Him, or is it some combination?

Is there such a thing as free will? If so, how does that reconcile with His sovereignty?

Is this just WAY too deep for a Monday? ;-)

Have fun.

Checking in…

Sorry about the “dead air” here. Internet isn’t hooked up yet at the house so I’m connected only by occasional trips to Panera.

The move went amazingly well. We couldn’t believe the help we got from KCC and my brothers. (Thanks, guys)

It’s so great to be finally local to the church. The drive to church this weekend was unreal. Something like 10 minutes. I’m so used to driving 2 hours it was strange to arrive without stopping for gas…

Cheers!

A Palace Just For Me

We are moving to Kernersville tomorrow. This is our last night in Fuquay. It’s a bittersweet thing for me. I grew up here and have so many poignant memories connected to this place. At the same time, I’m crazy excited about moving forward. Not to mention not having a 2 hour commute…

We were tucking in the kids tonight and Heather said to Eliana (2 yrs old), “Tomorrow we are going to be in a new house.”

To which Eliana precociously replied,

Yep. It’s gonna be a palace. And it’s just for me!

See you Monday. We’ll be posting from Kernersville!

John Piper: Prosperity Gospel

This is John Piper talking about the prosperity gospel so prevalent in the US. In light of the constant commenting on the Joel Osteen post I did a while back, I’m curious as to your thoughts on this.

Should we feel HATRED for the prosperity gospel?

Hat tip to Greg for pointing the way to this.

After some last minute haggling over flooring this week, we are going forward with the sale of our house. We close on Feb. 11 and move on the 9th. Not much time to pack!

Here are some randomly collected thoughts and links to get your weekend started.
