10 Things I’m Thankful For

// November 21st, 2007 // Family Life

It’s Thanksgiving Tomorrow! I’ve always loved Thanksgiving. The family, the food, the tryptophan overdoses, the joy of relaxing while your kids run in circles screaming with all their cousins.

I won’t be posting tomorrow because there will be a turkey to ingest and a subsequent nap to enjoy. I’m sorry, but I have my priorities.

What are you thankful for?
Plenty of room in the comments. Make yourself at home…

Here’s what I’m thankful for:

  1. Jesus. He’s my hero, my source and my first reason for getting up in the morning.
  2. My wife, Heather. Sometimes (most of the time) I just walk around shaking my head wondering what she must have been thinking marrying me. She knew what she was getting into. Believe me, I told her. I even told her about the back hair. Still, she married me without me having to slip something into her drink.
  3. My 3 kids. Kaitlyn is the sweetest girl I know. Eliana is like a tornado of affection. Owen… well, Owen is just a stud. They bless me, encourage me, ruin my plans and make me want to be a good Father.
  4. My parents. My Dad is still my hero, despite the fact that he still wears black dress socks pulled to his knees while wearing shorts and penny loafers. My mom is the reason why I don’t talk with my mouth full and knew that Heather was the right one to marry.
  5. My brothers. There’s nothing like having brothers who love Jesus as much or more than you do. Nothing like it at all. I spent the last 8 years serving in my older brother’s church. Now my little brother is coming to join me in Kernersville in February. How cool is that?
  6. The honor of pastoring such an awesome bunch of people. I can’t believe I get paid to do this, because I’d do it anyway!
  7. Egg sandwiches. My sister-in-law just made me one and I’m eating it as I type. Egg sandwiches are a gift from God.
  8. My mother-in-law who is currently making a pie. Not just any pie. An apple pie. The very same apple pie recipe that caused me to grow in my affections for her daughter, whom I later gladly married. This apple pie could start and end wars.
  9. Duct Tape. No explanation needed. It holds us together.
  10. DVD players mounted in cars. It’s a 5 hour drive here. None of my kids enjoy sitting still. It’s like trying to wrangle the wind. Dora the Explorer is the only thing that can do it for 5 hours.

Happy Thanksgiving!
