Weight Watchers
// November 6th, 2007 // Family Life
I recently decided to join Weight Watchers. I have done this once in the past soon after I had my second child. My sister was getting married and I had to lose weight fast. Mom was gracious enough to pay for it. My personality is such that I thrived under the pressure of a time constraint and my mom paying for it (I didn’t want her to feel like she was wasting her money). I knew that each week she would call me and ask how I did that week. I had to tell her….good news or bad news. I lost weight very quickly because of just having a baby and by being careful to stay on the plan. I lost 18 pounds in a short amount of time, but soon found out I was pregnant again!! After my son was born I found myself depressed from the constant lack of sleep and struggle having a 14 month old, new born and 5 year old just starting Kindergarten. I justified everything I put in my mouth by thinking that at least I had something that made me feel good (of course this is not the way to cope…)
Several times I attempted to put to use what I had learned in Weight Watchers the first time, but I found that I really needed the accountability, and my husband just wasn’t cutting it :). Mom offered to pay for me to do it again on the condition that I stuck with it (I need these conditions). She said she would call every week and ask how I did. If I lose focus, she will stop paying for it. I found a meeting time that fit with my schedule, researched the different payment options and attended my first meeting.
So, here I am starting again. I was able to find a new option that Weight Watchers offers. It is the cheapest option where you pay $39.95 per month. It allows you to skip out on the sign up fee, not pay a weekly fee and best of all have access to all the on-line stuff. I love their on-line tools. They have tons of recipes. There is also something where you can put in your personal recipes and they will tell you how many points per serving the recipe has and will store them on line so that you can have access to them when needed. There are on-line forums and ways to track your points for the day/week and your weight loss status. I was amazed at how much there was for me to use (in fact I haven’t finished looking over all of it yet). There is also information about restaurants and how many points food at certain restaurants will be.
There is one other website I like looking at. It is called Dottie’s Weight Loss Zone. I really only use this site to look at the restaurants. They have more restaurants on there then the Weight Watchers website does. I am able to go to this website before going out to eat which helps make sure I continue to monitor it.
So, we will see how it all goes. I am hoping that it will work. I definitely have the tools at my disposal…now all I need is a little self-discipline.
I am curious about what has worked or hasn’t worked for you? What is it that motivates you to lose those pesky pounds?

Hey Heather! Pesky pounds indeed! :)
You know I had to comment on this one because of all my weight loss struggles. I love WW, and I lost 25 pounds in about 4 months the last time around. I’ve since gained 10 of that back, but I’m back on track now for the umpteenth time. This time I have a short term goal of losing 25 pounds before our Disney World trip in February. I just wish it was only about the weight, and not about all the underlying junk the weight represents…you know?
