Thinking Blogger Award

Thinking Blogger AwardIt’s lonely at the top.

I’ve been awarded the “Thinking Blogger” award over at Real Life. I suppose as awards go, this is the one to get. Certainly much better than the “Bigot Blogger”, “Idiot Blogger”, or the ever illusive “Naked Blogger” award. I’ve never gotten the “Blogger Who Wishes he Hadn’t Said That” award, but I probably should have. I’ve certainly been nominated.

Two Movies I Can’t Wait to See

I love movies and I’m a total sucker for movie marketing and advertising.

It’s like my cynical side takes a vacation and I turn into a blathering 12 year old.

Here are two movies that I can’t wait to see and their trailers.

Have a great weekend!

Domesticated Christians?

Doggy Playing With ToyNathan Rice recently posted an article that got me thinking. I wonder if one of the reasons Christians often get so defensive (or downright angry) when their belief system is challenged is that they simply are not used to it.

Christianity has been the top dog for a long time in this country. Homosexuality was an underground lifestyle. Abortions were something to be ashamed of. Kids prayed in school even if they were Buddists at home. Courtrooms often had the ten commandments on the wall. Everyone went to church even if they didn’t believe. It was hard to tell the difference between a pharisee and a disciple. No one talked about their faith in public circles, especially if it was other than Christian.

The Nature of the Love of God

Crown of ThornsWe’re human. We tend to forget the important things like taking time with our kids, rest, grace, and God’s love for us. I think this happens because we allow other more aggressive things like work, finances, busyness, etc to impose wrong priorities on us. So this week I endeavored to remind us all (including myself) how much God loves us.

If you’re a John Piper fan, some of this will be familiar. I’ve been reading a lot of him lately. His stuff really gets in your blood…

How Jesus Helped Me Mow My Grass

Mowing the GrassSome of you will be blessed by this post. Others of you will laugh. And perhaps a few of you will think I’m a religious nutcase who has no business procreating. But, isn’t that what blogging is all about!?

So I’m mowing my grass this afternoon. I have nearly an acre of lawn, no trees and very little landscaping. The house is only 2 yrs old and we have been too busy raising children and quitting jobs to plant trees. All this to say, there’s nothing but grass and dandelions out there.

And I have a push mower.

My Rules for Other Drivers

Road RageI’m doing a lot of commuting right now until the house sells and we can move the family to Kernersville. With all this time spent on the road, I’ve noticed that most other drivers are completely oblivious to how terrible their driving is. I figure I have two options: 1) explode in an atomic explosion of road rage, or 2) blog about it.

Since being a pastor makes me holy, I’ll choose option #2.

So here are some driving rules that I expect all of you to follow. Please.

Jesus Loves Me: Keeping it Simple

Last night my 2 year old daughter woke up crying. That’s not unusual since she occasionally wakes up wanting a drink or something. I went in to find out what the fuss was about and found her inconsolable. I held her while she continued to cry. She was still half asleep and had apparently had a bad dream. She was confused and still pretty much asleep.

She cried and cried.
